Designing Taskaroo, an Internal Task Management Application

About Taskaroo

Taskaroo is a desktop app used on a daily basis for high volume task management. We needed a more efficient product that could tie into existing customer billing methods.

The Challenge

Redesign the existing UI
Leverage current capabilities, while introducing new necessary functionality
Ensure the UI that will require minimal employee training time
Create a scalable solution that could be marketed externally in the future
Develop an experience that is both efficient and enjoyable

MVP

Brainstorming and narrowing down ideas ensured that we focused on the most essential features that would solve our problems.

Doing this solidified that by the end of the development stage, we would we reach our minimum viable product.

My Role

I worked collaboratively with the back-end development team as the UI/UX Lead. I worked with the Client Services and Account Management teams to gather user data and feedback. After the prototype was tested and approved, I wrote the HTML & CSS to hand off to Development for database integration and launch.

Cleaning Up Task Items

We determined the essential items to display in the list, removed a few that didn't apply, and nested other less commonly used features in a dropdown menu - all of which helped clean up the main task/project list.

Make To-Dos Easier

Providing more space and focus for the To-Dos provides better readability and solves a big pain point for users.

Enabling them to be entered and edited on the fly simplifies the interaction.

Task Details Panel

By moving the Task details to the side panel, we can reduce clutter in the main focus area.

Stacking the details here saves space and keeps the user focus on the main task area.

Integrated Chat into Sidebar

The chat system is heavily used, but in its current placement is hard to work with.

I adjusted it to be more of a free-flowing conversation window.

Introducing the ability to maximize the chat window is helpful to review past conversation - a big complaint by users.

Streamlining New Tasks

By adding the ability to upload attachments, and create new task to-do items within the task creation process, we are able to save two additional screen/steps from the previous design, saving users time and make a more efficent workflow.

Bonus:

Although responsiveness wasn't a requirement, I did include a couple of mockups for mobile views for future reference, and did ultimately end up coding it to be mobile-friendly.

The Result

Taskaroo became the company's every day task and project management application. It ties into billing for client work, and is an essential tool for Interact. The new UI streamlined workflow, saving users time and easing frustration.
